This dataset includes discrete profile measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients and delta C13 obtained during the R/V Marion Dufresne cruise CLIVAR_OISO19 (EXPOCODE 35MF20110114) in the Indian Ocean from 2011-01-14 to 2011-02-20. These data were collected by C. Lo Monaco of Universite Pierre et Marie Curie; Institut Pierre Simon Laplace; Laboratoire D'Oceanographie et du Climat: Experimentations et Approches Numeriques and Nicolas Metzl of Universite Pierre et Marie Curie; Laboratoire de Biogeochimie et Chimie Marines as part of the CLIVAR_OISO19 data set. The International CLIVAR Global Ocean Carbon and Repeat Hydrography Program carries out a systematic and global re-occupation of select WOCE/JGOFS hydrographic sections to quantify changes in storage and transport of heat, fresh water, carbon dioxide (CO2), and related parameters.

Processing Steps
  • Parameter or Variable: Dissolved Inorganic Carbon; Abbreviation: TCARBN; Observation type: discrete; In-situ / Manipulation / Response variable: In-situ observation; Measured or calculated: Calculated; Replicate information: Field Replicate: Deep replicate samples were collected from two different Niskin bottles (usually 1000 m or bottom). The mean difference between two deep replicates was 2.1 ±0.9 μmol/kg for total CO2 and 2.5±2.1 μmol/kg for alkalinity (n=11).; CRM batch number: Batch #104.
  • Parameter or Variable: Total alkalinity; Abbreviation: ALKALI; Observation type: discrete; In-situ / Manipulation / Response variable: In-situ observation; Measured or calculated: Measured; Type of titration: closed; Curve fitting method: Water samples were collected from the Niskin bottles in 500 ml glass bottles for the simultaneous analysis of total alkalinity. Measurements were performed on board, using an automated system with a closed cell described by Goyet et al. (1991). The equivalence point is determined using a non-linear regression method (D.O.E., 1994).; Uncertainty: Accuracy: ±3 μmol/kg for both total CO2 and alkalinity based on CRMs analysis..
