Size-fractioned zooplankton biomass data sampled during the Institute of Marine Research Norwegian Sea survey from 1995 to 2005 (NCEI Accession 0049894)

The data were downloaded from the COPEPOD data base website. The dataset contains zooplankton data from the Institute of Marine Research (Bergen Norway) Norwegian Sea survey in April-June during the years 1995 to 2005. It is total biomass and also biomass of size fractions 180 um, 1000 um and 2000 um microns (from the latter we also pick our krill, shrimp and small fishes). The samples are taken by WP2 nets from 200-0 m.

Data in this accession are represented in two ways in the subdirectory data/0-data/:

COPEPOD_data/ contains the data processed into standard COPEPOD ASCII formats. This directory also contains an html browser supported interface for reviewing information about the data (e.g., location plots for specific data types, temporal and sampling summaries,taxonomic resolution).

originator_data/ contains the original format in which the data were provided, a comma-separated ASCII text file (imr-norway__zooplanktron_biomass.csv) and a format description file (imr-norway_readme.txt) that defines the format of the .csv file.

The data/0-data/about/ directory includes metadata files from the data provider at NMFS.
Purpose This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

  • 2015-04-22T00:00:00 - NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
