Oceanographic data collected from station Castle Point, NJ by Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System (HRECOS) and assembled by Mid-Atlantic Regional Association Coastal Ocean Observing System (MARACOOS) in the Hudson River from 2008-01-01 to 2017-10-06 (NCEI Accession 0163419)
This dataset contains oceanographic data collected at Castle Point, NJ, a fixed station in the Hudson River. These sensors measure CONDUCTIVITY, DEPTH - OBSERVATION, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, OXYGEN - PERCENT SATURATION, SALINITY, WATER TEMPERATURE, pH and turbidity at frequent intervals in the nearshore coastal ocean. Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System (HRECOS) collected the data and provided the data to MARACOOS, which assembles data from Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System (HRECOS) and other sub-regional coastal and ocean observing systems of the Mid-Atlantic Coastal United States, submitted the data to NCEI as part of the Integrated Ocean Observing System Data Assembly Centers (IOOS DACs) Data Stewardship Program. The data are made available in netCDF formatted files, which follow the Climate and Forecast metadata convention (CF) and the Attribute Convention for Data Discovery (ACDD). Each month, NCEI adds to this dataset the data collected during the previous month.
The Castle Point Buoy Station is moored near the western shore of the Hudson River off the Stevens Institute campus in Hoboken, NJ. It is moored in approximately 30’ of water and is 350’ from the shoreline. The buoy is approximately 4’ in diameter and 7’ high from water level. A two point mooring consisting of 4 pyramid anchors are utilized to prevent excess drift and spin. The sensor package on the buoy during period (1) consisted of a YSI 6600EDS sonde (temperature, salinity at ~1 m depth) and RM Young meteorological sensors (wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation) as well as a Vaisala pressure gauge (barometric pressure). Dew point was calculated from measured parameters. The sensor package during period (2) includes only a YSI 6600 sonde (temperature, salinity, acidity, turbidity and dissolved oxygen). A bottom YSI sonde was added on a nearby pier in summer 2016 (see data and metadata for Castle Point Pier Station).
