Primary ocean station data (pressure, temperature, salinity) collected in the Prydz Bay region during the 29th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition Chinare29 cruise taken from the Chinese icebreaker R/V Xue Long during 31 January – 3 March, 2013. These austral summer observations were taken across the shelf to the continental slope, to depths up to 3500m, and along the ice-shelf. Data file format is plain text.

Purpose The objectives of US/Chinese Collaborative Study: Investigation of Bottom Water Formation in Prydz Bay, Antarctica are: (1) Document seasonal and interannual variability of water mass properties on the continental shelf and slope of Prydz Bay through an array of subsurface moorings and repeat CTD sections; (2) Investigate the atmosphere-ocean-ice interactions and shelf/slope processes that form bottom water; an (3) Investigate climatic impact on these bottom water formation processes. These data were acquired primarily in support to the program with the overarching goal to understand dynamic processes involving with formation and export of dense shelf water

  • Parameter or Variable: Pressure, temperature(ITS-68), salinity, depth (calculated); Units: decibar,°C,PSU,meter; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: CTD - Seabird 911+; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Pressure (depth), temperature, and conductivity (salinity) CTD data acquired with a Seabird 9 11+ V5.2, using Seabird’s Seasave version 7.21e software on a PC running Windows XP. CTD data had been processed with standard Seabird processing software Seasoft V2 combining pre-cruise and post-cruise calibration for each sensor (pressure, temperature and conductivity). Mean agreement between dual sensors was within 0.002 °C and 0.0003 S/m for the temperature and conductivity sensors, respectively. The final data reported to NODC correspond to the data derived from the secondary pair of temperature and conductivity sensors. Data is reported every 1 decibar.
