Oceanic Environmental data were collected from the ALAMINOS and other platforms from 01 February 1971 to 01 December 1971. Data were collected in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean by Texas A&M University (TAMU) and other institutions as part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration (IDOE). Data is predominantly based on analysis of zooplankton samples. Data include concentrations of metals in fish, sea water, plankton, and sediments.

Data was submitted to the National Science Foundation as a report titled 'A Study Program to Identify Problems Related to Oceanic Environmental Quality -- Gulf of Mexico' on 10 January 1972. Analog copies of report are available by contacting NODC user services.

Supplemental Information	Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM.
