Fin rot and other data collected from NOAA Ship DELAWARE II and other platforms in New York Bight from net casts and other instruments; 1973-02-20 to 1975-12-16 (NCEI Accession 7601402)

Taxonomic Code, physical, and other data were collected using net casts and other instruments in the New York Bight from NOAA Ship DELAWARE II and other platforms. Data were collected from 20 February 1973 to 16 December 1975 by National Marine Fisheries Service, Middle Atlantic Coastal Fisheries Center, Oxford, Maryland, for the Fin Rot Program of the Marine EcoSystems Analysis Project - New York Bight (MESA-New York Bight) project.

Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard Fin Rot (F005) (F006) format.

The Fin Rot (F006) format is used for data from examinations of the biological condition of diseased fishes. For tow samples collected, data include: total number of individuals of a given species, number of diseased fish of that species, and extent of damage to the body and various fins for up to three selected diseased individuals. The specimens are identified by the NODC Taxonomic Code. The survey, institution, senior scientist and station are identified. Parameters defining environmental conditions at the sample location at the time of collection (e.g., water temperature and salinity, air temperature, wind direction and speed) may also be recorded.

Supplemental Information
Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
