Delaware Bay Database; Delaware Sea Grant College Program, 1988-06-28 (NCEI Accession 8900151)
The Delaware Bay database contains records of discrete quality observations, collected on 40 oceanographic cruises between May 1978 and October 1985. Each record contains chemical, hydrographic and biological data. The data were submitted by Dr. Jonathan H. Sharp of the University of Delaware. The originator's database has been copied onto current NODC data storage system. There is no DDF or documentation etc.
NOTE: On Dec 3, 2004 when this abstract was written, none of the files could be opened. Apparently we need some programs that will be able to open these files. Documentation is needed for utility programs for converting the data to be used with Lotus 1-2-3, DBASE-III and Reflex. Also a mention was found that the data can also be found under reference numbers l00614-l00653. A reference number was assigned to each cruise. PLEASE NOTE none of the above file numbers are part of this accession.

At the time of writing abstract for this accession none of the files in the accession could be opened with the existing software. NODC is currently looking into possible solutions to be able to read the data in these files. Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
