WATER TEMPERATURE and Other Data from MOANA WAVE and Other Platforms from North Pacific Ocean as part of the Hawaii Ocean Time Series data (HOTS) project from 1988-10-30 to 1989-11-29 (NCEI Accession 9300183)
JGOFS Hawaii Ocean Time Series data (HOTS) data collected primarily from a HOTS deepwater site 100 km north of Kahuku Point, Oahu (Station Aloha, 22 degrees 45 N, 158 degrees W. A second station near Kahe Point at 21 degrees 20.6 N, 158 degrees 16.4 W provided additional data at a nearshore site). Data were collected during the first twelve cruises of HOT from October 1988 to November 1989 from the University of Hawaii's R/V Moana Wave and the SSP KAIMALINO.
In addition to these JGOFS data, NODC has archived HOTS-1 data that has passed through quality controls of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE). WOCE data were submitted on magnetic tape and are filed under NCEI Accession Number 9300009, Reference Numbers L01474 -85, NODC Tape # D02627 and cartridge number W74047. The primary difference between the "WOCE" HOTS-1 data and "JGOFS" HOTS-1 data are the additional biogeochemical parameters included in the "JGOFS" data set. Although there is overlapping between data required by the WOCE program and the JGOFS program, the primary focus of WOCE is on physical oceanographic processes; the primary focus of JGOFS is on biological/chemical processes.

Supplemental Information | The publication(s) listed below are related to the data collection and are available from the NOAA Central Library: C. Winn, S. Chiswell, E. Firing, D. Karl, R. Lukas, 1993 Hawaii Ocean Time-series Program, Data Report No. 3. Honolulu, Hawaii : School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, University of Hawaii, 1990. Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
